Men can get ante-natal and post-natal depression. Yes. You read that right. Men too.
Pregnancy is a powerful, life-altering experience that can, and do, stir up deep-rooted and sometimes unexpected emotions and issues in both expectant parents or, in the case of after-birth, in both parents.
1 in 10 dads experience PND (Post-natal Depression). While the number for moms is still significantly higher (at 25%), the numbers for dads, especially if they are younger (in their 20s or 30s) are enough to indicate that screening for paternal post-natal depression is just as important as it is for new mothers.
