Jessica Alba’s Honest Company issued a voluntary recall of their organic baby powder due to possible contamination. In a statement on their website, the company said that the contamination was discovered during routine testing.

Christopher Gavigan, co-founder of the company, said in a video posted on the company’s website,

“Possible contamination with some microorganisms was found, including some species associated with skin or the infections, for that reason and with the full knowledge and under the guidance of the FDA, we’ve decided to voluntarily recall this product out of an abundance of caution,”.

Honest Company is no stranger to controversy. In the past, the company has been accused of not using ‘green’ ingredients in its products while claiming to the contrary.

Earlier in March 2016, Wall Street Journal, based on 2 independent lab test, said that Honest’s liquid detergent contains the cleaning agent Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, which could irritate skin. The SLS ingredient is cited as an ingredient Honest doesn’t use on its website. Honest vigorously refuted this claim and called WSJ’s reporting “reckless” and said it “substituted junk science for credible journalism.
